WATCH: Rian Johnson seems doubtful about the future of his Star Wars trilogy

October 17th, 2019 by Marc Comments

Ok, so it’s fair to say that Ryan Johnson’s toe dip into the Star Wars universe with The Last Jedi caused more than a few ripples.

Loved by some and utterly despised by many, the movie truly divided the fanbase and will, without doubt, go down as a definitive moment in the Star Wars history for better or worse.

But while the movie was a blip, he was given a trilogy set in the same universe to focus on – although he famously was given the green light by Kathleen Kennedy despite not having a story or idea for what it might be – which cause quite a few fans to raise their eyebrows.

And yes, there were several raised here at FTN HQ.

However, now it seems that he may not be so sure about his future in the galaxy far, far away.

Promoting his new movie, Knives Out, Johnson was asked (video below) about how the project was coming along and he faltered somewhat in his reply, saying they were in the process of “figuring out what they’re doing,” and that he would “be thrilled if it happens”.

Now, while i did hate the movie for several reasons, I imagine this is an awkward place for Johnson to be in… if you carried the crown of being so divisive, would you really want to do it all again?

We’ve be hearing for quite some time that the higher ups at Disney/Lucasfilm were very unhappy with the Last Jedi and both Johnson and Kennedy took the brunt of that, and that his trilogy may never happen.

To me, personally, I think it’s unlikely.

What say you all?
