We’ve known for what feels like forever that a multi-part DC Animated movie of the Batman: Knightfall event was coming and now we have the trailer for the first part of what is a trilogy of movies.
Debuting in 1993, the Knightfall storyline sat alongside A Death in the Family and The Death of Superman as one of the biggest comic events of all-time and saw a new villain enter the DC Universe called Bane, a genius, muscle-bound monster fuelled by a steroid called Venom which gave him the strenthg to not only beat Batman but physically and mentally break him, leaving Gotham City crying out for a new saviour.

It’s an epic tale, and now we get to watch it all unfold in glorious animation!
Arkham Asylum has been destroyed, and all its inmates have been unleashed upon Gotham City. As Batman races to round up some of his greatest enemies, he is pushed to his physical and mental limits and into a final confrontation with a new threat: the man called Bane! Based on the iconic DC comic book event, Batman: Knightfall – Part 1: Knightfall tells the story of the breaking of the Bat.
Tidbit:
Legendary comic artist Kelley Jones, who drew many of the iconic covers for Knightfall, took to his social media to confirm his involvement in the movies, saying: “Very proud to announce Knightfall pt 1 and my thanks to DC for having me involved. They made a classic comic a classic film.”
The first chapter of the three-part animated event stars Anson Mount as Batman, Michael Mando as Bane, and Pablo Schreiber as Azrael, bringing one of the Dark Knight’s most unforgettable battles to life.
Batman: Knightfall Parts 2 and 3 are scheduled to arrive later in 2026 and early 2027.
Coming to Digital on August 25, followed by a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on September 8

This is one I will be pre-ordering the second it becomes available; the Knightfall storyline was a big part of my teens reading comics, especially Batman, and while i am aware of its flaws, I adore the story and the new characters it introduces, with Jean Paul Valley’s Azrael being a particular favourite.
