We’re getting a second Star Wars Holiday Special this Life Day! But from LEGO

August 13th, 2020 by Marc Comments

You may recall last November that The Mandalorian’s Jon Favreau said that he would love to do a second Star Wars Holiday Special and he was serious (here) and now we’re getting it.

Well, sort of.

Star Wars fans will know the legacy of the Star Wars Holiday Special which aired over Thanksgiving 1978 and now seems like a weird fever dream. It was an abomination which I strongly recommend watching and it saw Han Solo (all the cast played their respective roles) trying to get his best friend Chewbacca back home to celebrate Life Day – a Thanksgiving-like celebration on Chewy’s home planet of Kashyyk – and along the way there’s musical numbers, you find out Chewbacca has a wife and kids, Boba Fett is introduced in an actually quite good animated segment and, as things get weirder, it all meets a crescendo when Carrie Fisher sings a song to the tune of the Star Wars theme.

Honestly, you need to see it to believe it.

Mind you, as much as fans have hated and loved it in equal measure, it has left a stamp on Star Wars with Life Day, Chewy’s Family and, of course, Boba Fett still being parts of the story.

But now, 42 years later, we’re going to celebrate Life Day again… this time in LEGO.

On Disney+ on November 17th we will all, once more, celebrate Life Day only this time it will be with LEGO Rey, Finn, Poe, Rose  and Chewy and the story will take place after The Rise Of Skywalker but the story will see the characters ‘revisit previous generations of the Skywalker lineage’.

Whatever that means…

Directly following the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day as she sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is written by David Shayne and directed by Ken Cunningham.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
