Wesley Snipes set to return as Blade in Secret Wars?

April 25th, 2024 by Marc Comments

It looks like Wesley Snipes’ Blade might be set for a return ala Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-man.

Scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that Snipes will return in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars – due in 2027 – along with a whole batch of other Marvel characters and actors from across the years.

We know that Mahershala Ali is cast as Blade in the MCU and his movie is set to start filming soon, so it’s fair to say that if/when Snipes returns, it’s not going to be as the MCU’s Blade but the version of Blade we already know or, possibly, a different Blade  – like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine who we’ll meet in Wolverine & Deadpool.

Two different rumours about blade’s big screen return for you, guys…

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Snipes was set to return to the iconic role that, let’s be honest, along with the X-Men franchise, helped shape the MCU that is today. Back in 2021 when Ali was cast, Smipes hinted on social media that we might see him again, saying: “So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.'”

But in 2019, before the world went insane for a few years (yeah, like it ever ended), Snipes said that he, his people and Marvel were in talks for a few years to have him return: “There are a lot of conversations going around right now, and we’re very blessed to have the enthusiasm and interest in something coming from that world again. We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world, and when people see them, I think they’re only going to have a problem with deciding which one they love the most.

“All the main execs [at Marvel] and my team, we’ve been discussing for the past two years. Everyone’s enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess. In the meantime, we got a business to run and our own slate of things to do so…But the next time you see something in [the Blade universe], mark my words: what we did before is child’s play compared to what we can do now.”

Knowing all this, I think not only is it possible but it’s likely that Snipes’ Blade will return and the iconic Daywalker will slay vampires and supernatural monsters again and, no matter how that goes, I have here for every bit of it!

Would you like to see Blade return to his old self ala Maguire, Garfield, Jackman and the others? Let me know…

Wesley Snipes responds to no longer being Blade… and perhaps hints at something cool
