What? Could Star Wars EU character Mara Jade finally be headed to the big screen?

Well, Luke Skywalker is dead, so why would you not bring in Mara Jade?!

The latest episode of That Hashtag Show (below) has revealed that a new role is currently being cast for Star Wars: Episode IX and it may be one of the biggest characters in the original Star Wars (Expanded) Canon pre-Disney… Mara Jade.

Who?

Well, Mara Jade was first introduced in Timothy Zan’s Thrawn Trilogy of books and she was one of the Emperor’s Hands: an elite group of Force/Sith sensitive beings who Emperor Palpatine used as assassins, doing wet-work across the galaxy. Paplatine didn’t like you? Watch out for these guys.

However, crossing paths with Luke Skywalker changed her destiny in a massive way, as she eventually fell in love with him and became his wife, with the two eventually having one son, Ben Skywalker.

Now, Ben Skywalker and Han And Leia’s son Jacen (in the pre-Disney universe) seem to have been merged to become The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi’s villain, Kylo Ren AKA Ben Solo.

But now word is that: Star Wars: Episode IX is looking to cast a new prominent female character. The role is described as a female lead and is looking at actresses between 40-50 years old. The part that will catch the attention of most fans is that she’s currently being called Mara.

What? Could this be Mara Jade? Well, given that the character of Kylo Ren is an amalgamation of two Expanded Universe/Legends characters, then yes it could be Mara Jade… or a version of her that now fits in to the story.

But how? Well, we could find out that Luke was married to her in the past… we may see the two together in some Ant-Man like de-aging CGI that shows part of the story that took place between the original trilogy and the new trilogy.

Well, apart from us telling you that Julianne Moore is our choice for the role, perhaps she will have nothing to do with Luke in this version. Perhaps she will train Rey given that Mark Hamill’s return to play Luke is in question. Or perhaps she will turn out to to be Rey’s mother… or perhaps she and Luke will BOTH be Rey’s parents!

It just seems silly to us to bring her into the tale – in any form – AFTER the death of Luke. Buy hey, what do we know?

Or this could be a complete red-herring? Who knows… it could be nothing. But it could also be massive.

What say you all?
