What’s going on with Empire’s two Star Wars the Force Awakens covers?

Empire Magazine has previewed two new Star Wars: The Force Awakens fold out covers that will be on the latest issue of the movie magazine.

And they are pretty cool.

One cover focuses on villains with Captain Phasma, Kylo Ren and General Hux in a First Order hanger bay surrounded by Stormtroopers and TIE Fighters. The other is a hero cover with Finn, Rey, Poe Dameron and BB-8 standing on Jakku near the Millennium Falcon.

But they have us at  FTN scratching our heads. Why? Well, the villains cover clearly shows the Original Trilogy Stormtroopers in the Hangar, while the heroes cover is the Falcon’s original radar dish, not the square one from the new movie.

And we find this all a bit odd.

We can’t work out why these are the case, but maybe you guys have some ideas? Tribute? Mistake? Clue? We’re stumped… Let us know what you all think.

The images are below and Empire is out on Thursday, August 27th.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
