Spider-man: Homecoming opens here in the UK in two days but we’re still getting cool new bits and pieces.
The first thing we have today is the very cool Mondo Poster (above) which, for a movie that’s had a surprising amount of great and poor posters, may be the best one yet.
Next up is the full clip (bottom) of Peter Parker’s vlog which we’ve seen bits and pieces of so far in various trailers and TV spots. The whole thing is a lot of fun, so be sure to check it out.
Finally, we have speculated in the past why Spider-Man was able to be taken by surprise so many times in the awesome battle scene in Captain America: Civil War (here) given that the character should have his trademark Spider Sense.
Then we figured that when he got the suit made by Tony Stark in the movie then there might be some rights issue (given that Spidey is shared by Marvel AND Sony now) and therefore his Spider Sense can’t be used on screen.
However, now the director of Homecoming, Jon Watts, has addressed the issue: “I feel like we have seen a lot of Spider Sense in the previous films, so we didn’t really lean into that as hard as they have in the previous films. But I do think it is a really interesting thing to explore.”
So, given these comments, we can expect that his Spider Sense will not be featured in the new movie… but we do hope we will see it in the future because, let’s be honest, it’s a big part of who Spider-man is.
SPOILERS: Oh, and one final bit of news? Well, remember the whole debate about who Zendaya is playing in the movie? Given that her name was apparently Michelle in the movie, many believed that she was actually Mary Jane (MJ) Watson, Peter’s long-time love interest in the comics.
Well, want to hear something weird?
Yeah you do… ok, so in the movie she isn’t Mary Jane BUT she tells Peter that her friends “call me MJ.” Well, that’s not at all confusing, is it?
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
Directed by John Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr.
Spider-Man: Homecoming comes to UK cinemas on Wednesday 5th July.
