Like everyone else, we at FTN kinda loved Guardians of the Galaxy. But three things annoyed us. Firstly, Groot’s fate was devastating (well, before the credits anyway), secondly Nathan Fillion was WASTED and fianlly, Ronan was a horribly underwritten villain. But now we may yet have these issues addressed.
In a recent Q&A on his Facebook page, James Gunn addressed these (and other) points.
Obviously when Groot reappears in the little pot at the end of the movie, everyone was happy, however, Gunn was quick to say it may not be just that simple: “Well, who says baby Groot is Groot and not Groot’s son. He might be dead,” he said. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
He also clears up Nebula’s outlook at the end of the movie: “Sometimes people are confused what happens to Nebula. She looks down for something to fall on, allows herself to fall on a Ravager craft, and takes out the Goth Ravager inside and flies away, leaving everyone to deal with this s*** themselves, because she’s stopped caring. She will be back.” More blue Karen Gillen? That works for us…
While he didn’t state that Ronan was dead, he did say he’ll not be in the sequel but he also didn’t write him off altogether.
As for Captain Mal himself? Well: “I would love to put Nathan [Fillion] in GotG2 if it could work out. He’s one of my very good friends and we love working together.”
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set to be released on May 5th, 2017.
