There are movies out there with threads left dangling, films with more to say than one movie could ever have time for, great cinematic magnum opus’s which stretch to a trilogy… and then there’s Bad Boys.
Yes, one of Michael Bay’s less explosion-ey movies (seriously, we cant wait for his next movie, in which a fireball must team up with a younger fireball to take down an evil gang of fireballs) is heading for the third chapter in the ongoing saga of the Miami detectives Burnett and Lowrey.
Speaking to Zane Lowe this week on Beats 1, star Will Smith said “There is a very, very, very strong possibility that you will be seeing a ‘Bad Boys’ within the next 12-16 months.”
This would make sense following Sony’s announcement that Bad Boys 3 would have a February 17th 2017 release date, with part 4 (yep that’s part FOUR) scheduled for a July 3rd 2019 release. Smith didn’t confirm however if he or Martin Lawrence would be returning, but rumours are that the movie will be a passing of the torch to a younger generation. Or, knowing Sony, those plans will be scrapped at some point in favour of an all-female reboot.
No matter how the franchise progresses, it’s clear that Sony are keen on making another Bad Boys movie very soon. But here’s hoping it manages to please fans of the first two… What’cha gonna do when they come for you?
