It seems that Will Smith, despite turning down the chance to star in the Independence Day sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, it seems that star of the original movie, Will Smith is sad to hear that his character, Steven Hiller, was killed off screen between the two movies

In a recent interview Smith made it quite clear he was upset that the character he made his own in the first movie is now dead:  “It was terrible when I found out my character died,” he said.

It was revealed that the character died test piloting the ESD’s first alien hybrid fighter, but “Hiller’s valor in the War of ’96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and his son Dylan.”

Smith had to turn the role down because of  his commitments to playing Deadpool in the Suicide Squad movie, although he admits he was on for returning if he’d been able to: “[Director] Roland [Emmerich] and I had talked about it.”

He’s prepared for an emotional time watching the sequel: “The trailer looks really cool. I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out.”

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
