Big news tonight as Warner Bros have announced that Wonder Woman 1984 has been put back from its original release date of November first next year.
Star Gal Godot took to Twitter to break the news: “Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!”
Yup, June 5th, 2020 is the new date.
While inevitably there’ll be the usual cries that something is wrong and that DC/Warner have no idea what they are doing, we actually think this is a clever move. And not just because Disney pulled an untitled movie from July 2020
Warners president of domestic distribution said in a statement shortly after Gadot’s tweet that, “We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did. This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.”
This will mean wonder Woman is back int he summer slot, meaning it can deliver bigger box office and it also means it will not be fighting against Joker and shazam! next year, giving it breathing space.
We’re ok with the development.
What about you all?
Here’s the original tweet from Gal Gadot:
