Zack Penn, the writer behind Elektra, X-Men: The Last Stand and the first draft of The Avengers (ugh) is currently working on the script of Guillermo DelToro’s highly anticipated (here at FTN towers anyway) Pacific Rim 2.

Talking to The Mary Sue, Penn has given some details about the direction the script will take: “There’s going to be a lot more about the Kaiju and their origins, and the world will be in a very different state when we get to this movie… all the specific tropes of the movie, like the giant robots and the giant monsters and all the technology around it, is going to be explored in more depth. That’s just where we’re going. But I’m not going to tell you the story cuz that would just ruin it.”

Del Toro had previously said that his idea for the sequel would be very different that the first movie and would look at the Kaiju’s society and what drives them. Either way, we loved the first movie and can’t wait to see the direction it takes.

No release date is known for the movie yet, but it’s expected that Charlie Hunnam, Mako Mori, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman will be returning.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
