It’s happening! It’s actually happening!
We’ve ‘known’ for a few weeks now that a Happy Gilmore sequel was coming with Adam Sandler back in the lead role and penning the script but it’s been confirmed now that failed hockey player Gilmore is returning to take the golfing world by storm!
Co-star in the first movie Christopher McDonald, who played the villainous but brilliant Shooter McGavin (see his hilarious tweet at the bottom of this story) in a recent interview on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan on Friday, said: “I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How ’bout that,’ [and] he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.'”
He then cautiously added: “Maybe you should cut that out because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit””
Topping Happy Gilmore almost 30 years later – the original came out in 1995 – is going to be a tough job because, not counting his more series roles like Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, it’s the nest movie Sandler put out in his comedy collection (come at me!).
However, now Drew Barrymore has seemingly confirmed live on air, from Sandler himself, that the sequel is coming:

Speaking in the above clip, the star – and friend of Sandler’s – said that she’s learned of the sequel and wants to confirm it on live tv… and does!
“I want it. I need it,” she says of the sequel, “And I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison, I sent Sandler a video of that, and then he sent me another video back, and I’m waiting to see if he’s confirming about the Happy Gilmore 2 script.”
Shortly after on the segment, she checks her phone and says: “This just in, I have breaking news, I’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process.”

So she’s saying Sandler confirmed to her live that yes, he’s working on bringing Gilmore back and we here at FTN HQ are very excited about the news.
Just one thing… how about Sandler do this Cobra Kai style and make Shooter McGavin the hero of the movie? That would be perfect.
