Zack Snyder has recently talked to Furious Monsters magazine about the DC film universe. He first touched on the criticism that still follows Man of Steel, probably one of the most under rated Superman films ever.

“I stand by it” he said “for me, I’ve always said when I was working on Watchmen… that there should be consequences to superheroes’ interaction with the earth… I wanted a big consequence to Superman’s arrival on earth. Certainly, Batman v Superman sort of cashes in all its chips on the ‘why’ of that destruction.”

One of the main criticisms of the film focuses around the destruction Superman causes and how he didn’t need to cause it. I have always considered that he did what he did to stop Zod. Whether that means smashing into a freight train at 600 miles an hour, or destroying skyscrapers it beats allowing the earth to be completely wiped out.

Snyder also talked about the upcoming Batman v Superman; Dawn of Justice and the main challenges he faced with finding a believable way to make ‘God vs Man’ battle it out on the big screen.

“The discovery of the story is that Batman fights Superman. Now move your superhero chess pieces so that can happen. And it can happen in a credible and interesting way”, he said. “It’s just incredibly satisfying and fun to dig into these two mythological characters and find a through line that allows them to come into conflict in a way that not only is philosophically satisfying, but also physically real.”

Snyder also teased Ben Affleck’s Batman, stating that; “[Batman’s] not yet tired of his place in the world. He’s definitely still tooth-and-nailing it.”

This is a very different take on the main idea that this Batman is beyond his time. He has fought long and hard in this world and has suffered greatly, losing friends and family all along the way. Images of batman in the trailers show him as a broken man. “You let your family die” and “Jokes on you” on what is believed to be robin’s uniform spring to mind. So a Batman that still is willing to fight on and on even after all this is definitely a different take on what we have seen.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set for release on 25th March 2016
