Are LEGO Doctor Who sets to Materialise?

February 25th, 2014 by Marc Comments

Here at FTN, we love LEGO.

We also love LEGO CUUSOO, the scheme in which fans of the multicoloured bricks can submit their own ideas for potential sets – its where the Back to the Future DeLorean and the soon to be released Ghostbusters Ecto 1 sets came from.

And for years many Whovians have been posting their own ideas for Minifigures of the Doctor and his companions, a Tardis built from blue plastic bricks, and so on – only to have their ideas rejected before they had efeb left the drawing board thanks to various licensing issues.

That seems to be set to change now, as an update to the License Conflicts And Resolutions section of LEGO CUUSOO’s help page suggests –

If your project was previously turned down, archived, or deleted due to a licensing conflict that is now resolved, you may re-submit it as a new project. Supporters from past projects cannot be applied to a future project.

Resolved Past Licensing Conflicts

We now welcome projects based on the following licenses that used to have conflicts:

• Doctor Who – February 2014

This strongly suggests that the barriers preventing Doctor Who and LEGO from joining forces have been taken down. This hasn’t been confirmed, and there has been no official word from LEGO, the BBC or Character Options (The current distributor of Doctor Who merchandise – including LEGO-esque Character Building sets) as of yet. But the LEGO post is fairly specific, which hints broadly that Doctor Who LEGO may be on the way.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
