Amazon moving ahead with their Robocop reboot series

The Robocop reboot series is back on at Amazon, it seems.

Last reported here in September 2024, the series has pretty much vanished from public scrutiny, but now, according to The Ankler, Amazon Prime’s new(ish0 head of global television, Peter Friedlander, has given the greenlight to the long-gestating reboot of the Robocop series.

As I reported back then, the series was being developed by Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies and Black Sails’ Peter Ocko acting as writer and showrunner, with horror maestro James Wan exec producing under his Atomic Monster production company.

The plot synopsis back then read: “A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.”

So, Robocop, then?

Over the years, the Robocop franchise, starting with 1987’s iconic Paul Verhoeven movie, has had several TV shows, an animated series, comic books, games and was even rebooted, but nothing has ever come close to Verhoeven and star Peter Weller’s original. Can Wan and Ocko – if they’re even still involved – come close? Well, honestly, I am going to say it’s unlikely, but if they play their cards right, the world right now could be crying out for commentary and humour like Robocop.

But I’m not terribly confident we will get it.

Thoughts on a new Robocop? I know you have them, and I wanna hear ’em all.
