Every year the question comes up “Will the Doctor ever be a woman?” and there have been so many arguments for and against it… “yes, he can be whatever he wants” or “No, the Doctor is a Timelord, not a Timelady” Etc…
Well, it looks like maybe a female Doctor is indeed a possibility.
At the Edinburgh TV Festival yesterday, reports THR, the BBC’s TV chief Danny Cohen was asked if he could ever see a female Doctor flying the TARDIS through time and space? His answer: “I hope so.”
So, does this mean it’s on the cards?
On This Morning Tv on Tuesday, here in the UK, new Doctor Peter Capaldi appeared to surprise a bunch of kids who were getting a tour of the TARDIS set. He asked the children what they liked about Doctor Who and after some banter one boy asked if he thought the character could be a woman? “Oh, Absolutely!” He replied.
Will we eventually see a TimeLady in the lead role? Only time will tell but it’s nice to know that firstly, the principals involved in the show have at least thought about it and secondly, we’re doing our part to keep the fans arguing…
In other related news, Darkhorizons are reporting: “The BBC has also announced the tie-in series “Doctor Who Extra,” essentially a rebranded “Doctor Who Confidential” which takes you behind the scenes of each of the upcoming episodes of the new “Doctor Who” season. ‘Extra’ will be exclusively available on BBC iPlayer.”
