If, like me, you’re a big fan of 80s movies and TV shows – and, let’s be honest, if you’re on this site, you likely are – then I have great news for you.
Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald, the creators of Cobra Kai, have now turned their attention to another iconic 8s franchise, Knight Rider! Yes, we could soon be seeing the return of Michael Knight and his car (the real star of the show), K.I.T.T, the super-sleek Trans-Am that could talk and carry out stunts and manoeuvres well beyond the capabilities of your average car.
Given the advent of AI (ugh), I could imagine K.I.T.T this time out being even more advanced than he was in the 80s.
Even more exciting, the series, which is still being developed, will also involve Kelly McCormick and David Leitch’s 87North, the folks behind John Wick, The Fall Guy and Nobody.
In the original series David Hasselhoff starred as Michael Knight, a detective who becomes an agent for FLAG, the Foundation for Law and Government, and is partnered with KITT, a modified, artificially intelligent and indestructible Trans Am. Together, the two sped head-on to fight criminals who operate above the law.
Knight Rider was one of those 80s shows that help form a generation and our love for lone wolves… and really, really cool cars.
Lionsgate confirm John Wick video game, big announcement coming soon
Knight Rider, over the years, has had a few relaunches, but now have been successful and there’s always talk and rumours of a new series or movie, but, given the success of Cobra Kai and how Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald made the Karate Kid franchise relevant and, dare I say it, cool again, this, added with 87North’s involvement, is ticking a lot of the right boxes.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ‘em all!
