I’m some utterly brilliant news, Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon have been confirmed as the new presenters of Robot Wars, replacing original host Craig Charles.

Mock the Week star Ó Briain will take over from long-standing  Charles as host of the BBC Two show, although nostalgic fans will be pleased to hear that Jonathan Pearce is returning as commentator, splitting his time between metal mayhem and Match of the Day duties.

“I am thrilled to be presenting Robot Wars,” Ó Briain said.

For too long, the schedules have cried out for a show in which dedicated amateurs toiling day and night, handcraft sophisticated automatons built on the delicate interplay of hand-wired servo motors with custom-built circuit boards and fingertip motion control, just to see them get smashed to pieces by a dustbin carrying a massive hammer. It’s war, and how I love it so.”

Scanlon, who is best known as a presenter for Irish broadcaster RTÉ, added: “I’m so excited to be joining such a legendary show that, after all this time, still manages to make people squeal with joy.

”I cannot wait to see the robots in all their metallic glory playfully destroying each other!”

Robot Wars will commence again later this year on BBC 2

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
