After our report of the delaying of Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars: Kenobi series, it looks like the series is actually on the lookout for a new writer(s).
Writer Hossein Amini is no longer attached to the project with the London production pushed back from August 2020 to January 2021 and while star Ewan McGregor has said not to worry, it’s “all good”, we have to wonder just how deep this rabbit hole goes.
You will recall Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy saying last summer at D23 that “We have all the scripts written, we’re ready to start shooting next year”.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm….
While we’re excited for The Mandalorain Season 2 (this winter) and Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor (sometime in 2021), I think it’s true to say it’s the Obi-Wan series the fans are really looking forward to.
But who will replace writer Amini? Well it seems that two of the Mandalorain scribes Dave Filoni and Christopher Yost are in the running with The Mando’s Deborah Chow still attached to direct the full series.
Filoni, of course, is a favourite here at FTN, having brought us The Clone Wars animated series, followed by Rebels, before moving on to TheMandalorian.
He is a student of George Lucas and is steeped in Star Wars lore to a level that many consider to be obsessive.
Yost is a writer for both Star Wars and Marvel and is currently working on Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop series.
Filoni gets my vote for this gig and, indeed, to take the keys from Kathleen Kennedy and become the Star Wars answer to Marvel’s Dave Filoni.
What say you all? How much trouble is Kenobi in? And who would you like to see writing it? Let me know, gang…
