Thanks to Coming Soon, we now know that BBC Worldwide is planning on showing the two-part Doctor Who series finale in cinemas.

Awesome news, right?  Well…

It’s only in America!  Yep, 700 cinemas across the USA will be treated to this event.  But the most annoying part?  Its LAST years series finale.  That’s right, you’ll be able to enjoy both Dark Water and Death in Heaven in RealD 3D and Dolby Atmos sound.  Hooray, indeed.  Its not all doom and gloom though, as afterward a special prequel minis ode from the series 9 opener The Magicians Apprentice will be shown, on top of a Q&A with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, hosted by everyones favourite nerd, Will Wheaton.

Tickets go on sale on July 31st via Fathom Events.  True the series 8 finale had a lot of great cinematic moments (that UNIT plane sequence from Death in Heaven is an obvious standout) but why, oh WHY they aren’t showing The Magician’s Apprentice afterward just baffles me – the event takes place over two nights, the first of which being the 15th of September – you know – THE NIGHT SERIES 9 KICKS OFF?!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
