The Joker is coming… and not just in Suicide Squad.

In Season 2 of Gotham we’ve already been told to expect a much more Joker-centric plot line, and now executive producers Danny Cannon and Bruno Heller have dropped some hints about what we’ll see from the character next season: “[The Joker is] an ideology, he’s not just a single villain. We’re doing the origins of an ideology,” says Cannon.

Em, what?

But isn’t Jerome (above) Joker? Well… “He’s locked up in Arkham right now. We get to meet him again and see what he’s blossomed into. Over the first episodes, we’ll see how his ideology spreads.”

Heller added: “I’m confident that fans of The Joker and fans of that aspect of the Batman series will not feel cheated but will feel like something’s been illuminated.”

Now, what could this mean? Will Jerome turn out to be the victim of some nerve toxin? Perhaps we’ll see others suffer like this… is there a man responsible for it, perhaps? Or will someone – possibly Jerome – become the Clown Prince of Crime ultimately?

Whatever happens, we look forward to seeing it unfold…

Gotham is back on Sept 21st

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
