One of our favourite figures in Star Wars right now – and since 2005 when he kicked off Clone Wars – is Dave Filoni and it seems he has a bigger role in Lucasfilm than we all realised.
Fans noticed Filoni’s page on the Lucasfilm website (here) has him listed as Executive Producer/Executive Creative Director.
Now, with Filoni being the man behind Clone Wars, Rebels, Resistance and Bad Batch, as well as being Jon Favreau’s go-to guy for story and ideas on The Mandalorian, many fans have called for him to be Lucasfilm’s answer to Marvel’s Kevin Feige, giving him creative duties over the future of Star Wars.
In a time when the Star Wars movies are pretty-much dividing fans, the TV world of Star Wars is where all the fans come together to celebrate and love the franchise as we have for the last 45 years.
However, it seems that Filoni has had this role for quite some time… we just didn’t know.
“Dave has been serving as Executive Producer/Executive Creative Director at Lucasfilm for quite some time now,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson has said.
“We simply updated our website. Nothing has changed with his current and future projects. He is busier than ever in a galaxy far, far away!”
Now, I know a lot of people are wondering (hoping) that this could play into the many rumours that Kathleen Kennedy is stepping away from Star Wars, but I can’t really say at this stage if this is the case or not, but what I will say is that Filoni developed Clone Wars under the watchful eyes of creator George Lucas, his knowledge is second-to-none, and he has created so many now iconic Star Wars characters, that if he does find himself directing Star Wars’ future than we here at FTN HQ will embrace that news with wide-open arms.
What about you all? Let me know…
