Not concerned that every character in the Batman universe short of Bat-Mite has already been introduced to Gotham in less than six episodes, the makers are now throwing another well known name into the mix. Firefly star Morena Baccarin will take the role of Dr Leslie Thompkins. In the comics Thompkins served as a surrogate parental figure to Bruce after his parents are murdered, and later becomes a confidant in his crusade as Batman
However, in the show she will be working at the just re-opened Arkham Asylum. She’ll “find herself drawn close to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters,” the actress commented. The show’s producer Danny Cannon revealed during New York Comic-Con she will meet Jim Gordon, who will be going through “a very tough time”. After their initial encounter, Thompkins will hold an attraction towards the future Gotham Police Commissioner.
Baccarin will be introduced this season with the role being expanded in the already confirmed season 2. With high ratings and the guarantee of a second season it will be interesting to see if the show starts to build upon the established characters or will continue to throw more well known faces into the mix each week.
