FIRST LOOK: Meet Alfred Pennyworth from the new Batman prequel series Pennyworth

February 11th, 2019 by Marc Comments

We have our first look at a much, much younger Alfred Pennyworth – faithful butler to Bruce Wayne in the Batman mythology – in the shape of actor Jack Bannon in Epix’s upcoming Batman prequel series.

We’ve learned the show will take place in a dark corner of 60s London and that Alfred may go up against a decendent of Jack The Ripper but there’s not much more known at the minute.

Ripper Street’s Jack Bannon is Alfred Pennyworth and Fleabag’s Ben Aldridge will play Thomas Wayne.

On top of that, Paloma Faith plays the show’s main antagonist, Bet Sykes, a “spirited, sadistic and sharp-tongued villain.”

Bet has a sister, Peggy, played by Polly Walker, “one of Lancashire’s busiest and most successful dominatrixes. The sensible matriarch in a family of maniacs, Peggy is fiercely loyal, endlessly resourceful and lives by her own strange but rigorous moral code.”

Jason Flemyng plays baddie Lord Harwood.

We’re still not exactly sure what to expect but we know that Alfred in the comics has a dark past and is a bit of a bad ass, so it should be fun to finally see that take place.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
