FIRST LOOK: Meet the main cast of Stephen King’s The Stand TV adaptation

May 21st, 2020 by Marc Comments

We finally have the first look at the ten-part TV adaptation of Stephen King’s end of the world masterpiece, The Stand.

The new series from CBS All Access is written, produced and directed by The New Mutants’ Josh Boone and chronicles the end of the world after a devastating superflu, called Captain Trips, sweeps across humanity and wipes out the cast majority of civilisation.

When the survivors come out to see what’s left, they feel themselves drawn to two people… in Las Vegas they go to Randall Flagg (here played by Alexander Skarsgard) and the others go to meet Mother Abigail (Whoopi Goldberg) in Nebraska. The survivors, along with Flagg and Abigail become locked in a battle of good and evil with the planet and our souls the prize.

The book is an absolute masterpiece and, especially today, feels all too possible and was a great star-filled TV series already in 1994, so an update at this stage is probably ok.

The new images show us Goldberg as Mother Abagail and Alexander Skarsgard as the demonic Randall Flagg. We also see Jovan Adepo as Larry Underwood, Heather Graham as Rita Blakemoor, Owen Teague as Harold Lauder, and Odessa Young as Frannie Goldsmith.

I read it when I was 12 and it’s still one of my all-time favourite books and, if you’re a fan of King’s The Stand, this is a very big part of that story too.

Still no release date for the series, but hopefully the current Captain Trips virus outbreak won’t delay it too much.

What do you all think of the images, guys? I want to know…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
