We have our first look at Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner as video game icon Lara Croft AKA Tomb Raider in the upcoming Amazon Prime TV series.

The new series is from Fleabag and Killing Eve writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge writer.

“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she’d explode,” said Waller-Bridge, adding: “Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s live-action Tomb Raider goes ahead at Amazon

Tomb Raider is pretty big at the moment with a new game on the horizon and Netflix’s ongoing animated series, and as a character that has endured now for the best part of 30 years, it’s hardly surprising we have a live-action version again.

Turner takes over from Alicia Vikander, who played the character in the 2018 movie, which I quite liked and was really hoping for a sequel to.

Oh, well.

“These timeless stories span all media platforms to meet audiences where they want to engage with ‘Tomb Raider;’ it’s a critical step towards our future with fans everywhere,” said Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos.

In-universe Point Break TV series going ahead

The first photo of Sophie Turner in her upcoming role as Lara Croft has been revealed.

The new series, which has no air date yet, has a heck of a cast with Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs and Celia Imrie also filling it out. British actor Bill Patterson will also appear as Lara’s Butler Winston.

So, what do you think? Does Turner look the part?

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
