Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s live-action Tomb Raider goes ahead at Amazon

It look like Netflix’s animated series later this year won’t be the only onscreen adventure of the second greatest archeologist known to man… Lara Croft.

Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge will showrun the new live-action series based on the Tomb Raider games and, while the always amazing Hayley Atwell is playing Croft in the Netflix series, it seems that Waller-Bridge and Crystal Dynamics/Amazon MGM Studios/Legendary Television are currently looking for an actress to play the role – Atwell, by the way, would be an amazing live-action Croft, just sayin’.

“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode,” said Waller-Bridge, adding: “Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

With a new reboot of the games and Netflix’s series all on the way, Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos said: “These timeless stories span all media platforms to meet audiences where they want to engage with ‘Tomb Raider;’ it’s a critical step towards our future with fans everywhere.”

I’m all for a Tomb Raider universe on all screens and formats, I just hope that Waller-Bridge’s adventures with this famous Archelogist is more succesful than the last one she had with Indiana Jones.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
