When the new Muppet films were released in 2011 and 2014 respectively, they reinvigorated the cheesy but lovable brand of creatures to the world. Well now it seems that Disney has plans to make the Muppets into a new(ish) TV show, just slightly younger and smaller this time.

A new Muppet Babies has begun production for a 2018 release. It will be a remake on the 1984 show, which ran for 8 seasons up until 1991. It seems that the animated style is changing to a more realistic Muppet style for the show. A recent image (below) shows the obvious Muppet features in a CGI style backdrop.

This new reimagining will likely follow a similar plot to the original, where each episode the group of babies set off on all sorts of adventures. It’s unclear if the classical Muppet celebrity cameos will be part of the series.

The Muppet Show is famous for its cameos and references to other mediums. I would be very surprised if this doesn’t follow the same sort of pattern.

The new series will air on Disney Junior – there is no airing date yet.
