FOX picks up DC Comics’ Lucifer for pilot

September 17th, 2014 by Dave Bowling Comments

As Fox continues to promote Gotham, the network is betting on another DC-based drama.

Fox has given a pilot commitment to Lucifer, from Californication creator/executive producer Tom Kapinos and Warner Bros TV. Kapinos will write the pilot and act as exec producer.

Lucifer, actually modelled on David Bowie, has appeared as a supporting character in The Sandman and headlined his own spinoff spinoff, both for DC’s Vertigo imprint. Based on the character’s Vertigo solo series, the TV series centres on Lucifer who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of… Hollywood. Now in Los Angeles, the devil opens an exclusive piano bar called Lux.

WBTV has recently been expanding its live-action DC TV universe with Arrow, The Flash, Gotham and Constantine. In addition to Lucifer, it is prepping Supergirl and has Titans nearing a pilot green light at TNT.

He has been a self-confessed geek for as long as he can remember, having been raised through the 80s on a steady diet of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and (sigh) Knight Rider. The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
