Get ready for a much more classic feel for Star Trek: Discovery Season 2

While Star Trek: Discovery managed to divide its audience – look, any franchise, from Trek to Star Wars to Lord of the Rings will have its detractors every time something different it tried – most agreed that the final scene, which saw Discovery meeting the USS Enterprise, left the universe full of possibilities.

The show had a very different look, feel and tone to any Trek that had gone before… despite running close to the original Trek series, it was much, much darker.

However, with the second season it seems like it may fit in more with the original world created by Gene Roddenberry.

Speaking at WonderCon 2018 showrunners Gretchen J Berg and Aaron Harberts spoke about the direction of season 2: “This [Season one] was an interesting season because it was set against the backdrop of war. One of the things that we are looking forward to in season two is a tone that we can now be in a more of an exploratory phase, a more diplomatic phase, maybe a bit more of a ‘Trekian’ chapter of this.”

Tell us more of this ‘Trekian’ tone – might we see the show’s main cast including Burnham, Saru and Tyler in The Original Series costumes?:  “Well, we bump up against the Enterprise at the end of our finale, and we know what kind of uniforms they wear. So, we will leave it at that.”

Despite the exploratory nature of Season 2, the Klingon threat will still lurk in the background and it will be interesting to see how Roddenberry’s vision co-exists with it after we meet the Enterprise’s Captain Pike.

There’s no word on when Discovery will return, but you know as and when there’s news we’ll be first to deliver the goods.

Live long and prosper….

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
