GHOSTBUSTERS DAY 2022: New Ghostbusters animated series coming from Afterlife writers and Netflix! UPDATED

June 8th, 2022 by Marc Comments

Happy Ghostbusters Day, Ghostheads!

The biggest day of the Ghostbusting year kicks off with some great news, as it’s been revealed that Netflix, along with Ghostbusters: Afterlife writers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan are developing a new Ghostbusters animated series!

The series will be from Sony Pictures with the duo exec producing; Reitman also directed Afterlife.

Picking up from 80s hit series The Real Ghostbusters and its sequel series Extreme Ghostbusters, nothing is known about the series at the minute and there’s not even word of a writer yet, but we’re hoping it will be in continuity with the movies rather than, as with the previous shows, a whole other story. We’re guessing that with Reitman and Kenan involved, that’s likely. Could we see a series set between Ghostbusters I & II perhaps? Or one that picks up after Afterlife with a whole new franchise of ghostbusting chapters all over the world?

Or could it be the series we EXCLUSIVELY discussed way back in 2020 that we heard would span the Ghostbusters Multiverse, bringing the original team, the Answer the Call team and others together (continues after video):

Or could this be the Ghostbusters series Dan Aykroyd pitched years ago that will follow the original team before they became the boys in gray (here)?

Whatever the series turns out to be, we’re very excited for it and cannot wait to see what other Ghostbusters goodies are set to be revealed as the day goes on.

Man, bustin’ really does make me feel good.

UPDATE: While nothing more has been revealed about plot, we know now, thanks to Reitman and Kenan, that the series will be set in the future.

What this means, we don’t know but I speculate it will see a GB team from the future who are still around after Ghostbusters Inc was reformed after the events of Afterlife and their story may well tie into events from the other movies in the series.
