With Mr Freeze being Gotham’s first really ‘super’ villain, we’ve been waiting to see who would be next… and it looks like it’s Basil Karlow, the actor who will become Clayface.

Comicbook are reporting that  actor Gossip Girl actor Brian McManamon (above with James Gordon actor Ben MacKenzie) will play Karlo, the original Clayface

The character has been a bat-villain since 1940 and was created by Bob Kane. Karlow was an actor who – depending on which story you go with – was enraged when his most famous movie was remade without his involvement (he’d hate to be alive today) and went on a quest for revenge against the cast and crew as the villainous, mask-wearing Clayface.

He didn’t become the lump of mud, shapeshifter character until 1989 when, in the story ‘The Mud Pack’, Karlow, along with other clayfaces Preston Payne, Matt Hagen and Sondra Fuller, formed a team who were swiftly beaten by Batman, however Karlow took DNA from all his other gang members and used it to be come the monster Clayface.

No word on what role (ahem) he’ll play in Gotham, but we’re looking forward to finding out.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
