Gotham to introduce the Joker in a very cunning way?

July 15th, 2014 by Marc Comments

Gotham is one of the must see shows of 2014 and now it seems that, in a world steeped in some of comics’ biggest and best villains, the best bad guy of all may be something the audience has to work for…

The image above is Jon Beavers who appears in the first episode of the series as a stand-up comedian in Fish Mooney’s club, much like the origin story of The Joker in the classic story The Killing Joke. So, he’s obviously the crime prince of crime, right?

Not necessarily…

According to Bleeding Cool, this may have been a very deliberate leak of info from the people of Gotham: “Basically, every episode in the first season will introduce a character that might be a future Joker, each emphasising aspects of the character’s iconography, a card sharp, a flower seller, a clown, or just a guy with a very big grin.

“All relatively unknown actors. All potentially a Joker. But only one of them being the actual Clown Prince Of Crime. Get ready to be Joker-teased on a weekly basis….”

We at FTN love this… the idea of piecing together all the clues, the characters, the nods and knowing that, at the end of it all, we’ll have met The Joker already but will have to work out who he is. It kinda makes us feel a little like Batman, really.

The cast includes Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Grayson McCouch and Brette Taylor as Thomas and Martha Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Erin Richards as Gordon’s fiancee, Barbara Kean, Zabryna Guevara as Gordon’s boss at the GCPD, Captain Essen, Victoria Cartagena will play detective Renee Montoya, Andrew Stewart Jones will play detective Crispus Allen, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean and Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nigma.

Gotham premieres this fall on FOX.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
