Green Lantern a ‘natural fit’ for the Krypton TV series says showrunner

March 30th, 2018 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Last week saw the premiere of the new DC TV show Krypton and it as garnering some positive vibes from viewers and on the inter webs (here’s our review).

The show revolves around Seg-El, the grandfather to comic book legend Kal-El, also known to the world as Superman and is set long before the big blue boy scout was born. With just one episode out (well, two now), there have been lots of rumours and speculation about where the show will go in terms of including other characters from the DC Universe who would have existed around the time the show takes place.

While we have been introduced to Adam Strange, one of the names that has been thrown around for the show is Green Lantern. Given that the officers elected by the Guardians of the Universe have been around since the birth of time itself, it would be a good fit for a Lantern to appear in the show and it seems this is not just wishful thinking by fans, as the showrunner Cameron Welsh said that having the Green Lanterns is “something that would be a natural fit for us”.

This seems to gel well with what executive producer David S. Goyer said back at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in January: “The deal with the show is it’s kind of this gateway into the DC science fiction universe. Because also the Phantom Zone figures into this show, it means we can delve into other times and planets eventually.”

This was echoed by DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns following Goyer’s comments, saying “Any of these characters could eventually show up.”

It looks like Krypton could be a series to really open up the DC universe… maybe someday they’ll have the Wave Rider team appear?

But seriously, with the Arrowverse being stuck firmly on earth – well, many earth – along with Gotham and others, it would be pretty cool to see the outer spaces developed too.

DC are currently doing very well on TV with the Arrowverse and Gotham and if Krypton is up to the standard of these shows it may run for a long time and has the potential to create its own universe that is separate for the other shows.
