Has Jodie Whittaker’s replacement on Doctor Who been found?

June 27th, 2021 by Marc Comments

We all know that Jodie Whittaker, below, is reportedly stepping down after the currently filming Doctor Who series 13 and so far there’s been a lot of speculation over who would be taking over with Good Omens’ Michael Sheen being the fans’ and bookies’ favourite.

But, if new reports are to be believed, it seems the next Doctor has been found in the form of It’s a Sin’s Olly Alexander. He’s also the frontman of band Years and Years and, if this is true, he would be first openly gay actor to take the role in the show’s 58-year history.

Now, I have to be honest, I’ve not seen It’s a Sin yet, but I’ve heard a lot of good things and I’m a fan of everything Russell T Davies does, so it’s on the list, it just means I cannot comment on Alexander’s acting prowess.

However, It’s a Sin creator Davies is said to have commented that Alexander would be a great Doctor and, as the man who brought the show back in 2005, he’s certainly well-placed to make that judgment, so if he said that, then I’m fully on board.

Reportedly a source close to alexander has said he’s “on the verge of being announced. It’s definitely happening, he’s just had to keep quiet about it while negotiations were finalised.”

While I was hoping for Sheen, I’ll not pass any judgment – should this turn out to be true – until I see what he does in the role and, maybe more importantly, what the writing is like because, as we have seen over the last three series, having a good actor/actress in the role will only get you so far when the writing is atrocious.

Thoughts, gang, I wanna hear them.
