Award winning show will air its final season in 2014.
HBO’s Golden Globe and Emmy winning series Boardwalk Empire will end its run at the end of its fifth season, which will air in the U.S. this September.
Created by Terence Winter and produced by Martin Scorsese and Mark Wahlberg, the series is based on the true story of Enoch ‘Nucky’ Thompson (played by Steve Buscemi), who built a bootlegging empire in Atlantic City during 1920’s prohibition, and features an all star cast including Michael Shannon, Kelly Macdonald, Stephen Graham and Jack Huston.
Terence Winter made the announcement during HBO’s Television Critics Association press tour this week, saying “After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”
No date has yet been confirmed for the show to air, but if previous seasons are anything to go by the final season will air around September of 2014.
