It looks like Alfre Woodard has been cast in Marvel & Netflix’s Luke Cage series and we’re hearing that she’s going to be the big bad of the series…

We’re big fans of Woodard here at FTN, ever since she played Grace in Scrooged opposite Bill Murray in 1988, she was so good in that movie and couldn’t be further from the role we’re hearing she’ll possibly play in Luke Cage.

Her character is listed as a lead character called Minetta: “a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life.”

Word on the grapevine is that Minetta is actually Black Mariah (see images above), a high -level criminal and drug dealer who, interestingly, is also an enemy of Iron Fist in the comics and Iron Fist will be the next Netflix/Marvel onscreen character after Mike Colter’s Cage series.

Given Daredevil’s nemesis in the TV series was primarily Kingpin, Black Mariah would be a logical choice for Luke Cage as she’s an enemy that will engage the character on many levels and could certainly be grounded more in reality than, say, a god-like or alien villain.

Colter’s Luke Cage will be introduced in A.K.A. Jessica Jones and is “a wrongly accused man who, granted superstrength by a sabotaged experiment, escapes prison to become a superhero for hire.”

This is really exciting news, indeed…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
