Penny Dreadful is not shy to the big names from film and television. Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Helen McCrory and Josh Hartnett, have all appeared in big budget films, or been part of big budget film sequels. It’s therefore not surprising that the new cast member is one of these big name actors.
Brian Cox, star of RED and X-Men 2, is set to join the series for season three.
It’s not fully known who he will play but early reports believe it to be Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett)’s father Talbot. Talbot is a mysterious character, “who has long been on the hunt for his son”.
It seems that Talbot will stop at nothing to find his son. This will likely cause great conflict between the two and depending on Talbot’s determination, could cause major problems for everyone else.
Brian Cox is a very dominant and strong actor. His presence on screen nearly always follows with a menacing demeanour. He is also an intelligent actor and not a physical one so it would be wise to expect him to have a network of people or unleash warfare from a distance. If Talbot is as bad as he has been described, or worse, then Brian Cox will be a perfect person for this position.
