We all know the official announcement of the new Doctor for Doctor Who season eleven can’t be far away… but could the BBC have accidentally revealed the choice already?
There’s been a lot of speculation recently that the new Doctor may be a woman – the first in the show’s twelve Doctors – and even in the finale of Season ten last week the Master asked the Doctor of the future “was all women?” and the Doctor, played by Peter Capalidi, replied “we can only hope..”. So it could definitely be on the cards.
And it may just be.
On Newsnight last night the show was talking about the finale and included a clip of actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge (above) awkwardly avoiding questions about the world’s most famous Timelord (Timelady?) and then they included a ropey looking regeneration effect around the actress.
And, needless to say, this has the internet going into meltdown.
Could this have been an accidental reveal? It certainly seems odd that the chose her for the clip… do they know something we don’t?
Anyone following Waller-Bridge’s career will know that the actress is a real all-rounder for the role. She has been kookie ever since we first saw her in The Cafe. She plays it straight in Broadchurch – new Showrunner Chris Chibnall’s show – and in the adult comedy Fleabag she plays, well every emotion under the sun. Also, she is an attractive woman but also has something unusual about her… much like Tennant and Smith had the handsome but… different.
We’re still unsure this will happen – we’re not sure the Who fandom is ready for a female regeneration however, we can certainly see Waller-Bridge in the role.
So what do you think? Is this going to be the next Doctor? Let us know…
