Netflix has announced that Jessica Jones will return for a second season.

Yes, Jessica Jones will have a second season of 13 episodes to the series starring Krysten Ritter as a private detective with superhuman abilities.

Executive producer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said: “There are just these wildly articulate insightful pieces being done about a feminist perspective, a political perspective, at a time where these subjects are getting some attention about women in Hollywood and women in the world, and how we’re portrayed in the media. It’s my life goal to contribute something to the world that hopefully moves it in a positive direction.”

After the exciting news that Netflix is enhancing its already fruitful partnership with Marvel in pressing ahead with a Punisher spinoff series starring Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Sicario), Ted Sarandosspoke – the streaming service’s Chief Content Officer – said any character could be getting the same treatment.

“Right now, these are produced at the scale of a major film, so there are long production times and long post times. In some cases, when we have character crossover, it makes it more difficult to manage production. It’s not the goal to put out more than one or two out a year.”

“The complex one is really The Defenders,” Sarandos said. “The Defenders’ production schedule will determine a lot of the Season 2 and 3 output of those shows.”

“Any character that’s in there is on the table … It’s always possible. All the characters in the universe could also spin out.”

So, in other words, although Netflix are recognising the difficulties in adapting more Marvel characters for their own television series, they’re certainly not ruling it out. What do you think? Are there any existing Marvel characters you would like to see given their own Netflix show?
