Jon Favreau gives us first look at and confirmation of The Mandalorian Season 2 and… could Darth Maul be returning?

If, like us all here at FTN HQ you have been loving The Mandalorian, you will be giddy to know that show runner Jon Favreau has already confirmed – and teased Season 2 – for the end of this year! Yay!

The star took to Twitter and shared this:

Is it just me or is that a more deadly looking version of a Gamorrean, best known as a guard at Jabba’s palace in Return of the Jedi?

Whatever he is, or whatever his role, consider us all sorts of excited.

However, this wasn’t the only exciting news we received… could we also be seeing the return of one of the saga’s greatest villains?

Here’s what Darth Maul actor Ray Park had to say on Instagram immediately after the season 1 finale aired:

Meet me on Dathomir? That is, of course, Maul’s home planet and also the home of the Sith Witches… could this be a tease for where The Mandalorian Season 2 may go?

On top of this, Sam Witwer, who has voiced Maul in Clone Wars and Rebels, had this to say at the same time over on Twitter:

Now, of course, this is probably nothing as we know both actors are also, first and foremost, massive Star Wars fans, but given that were not getting a Solo sequel movie and it was established that Maul was alive and well during it – I still love that ending – we know that Maul’s story, while ended on Rebels, has many chapters that remain open and, given that we saw Moff Gideon wielding the Darksabre at the end of The Mandalorian, could we see Maul’s story explored in flashback in season 2?

Honestly, while I found Rise of Skywalker pretty unfulfilling, I adored The Mandalorian, so if the guys behind that show (step forward Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni) want to pick up Maul’s story as it was left in Clone Wars, Rebels and Solo, then all I have to say is…
