The very lovely Karen Gillan is moving on from Doctor Who, Selfie and Guardians of the Galaxy to something altogether darker… The Devil You Know, a new drama about one of history’s darkest chapters, the 17th century Salem Witch Trials.

The HBO series will begin filming this Spring in Boston (close enough) and will be directed by none other than Gus Van Sant. It will also star FTN favourite Eddie Izzard.

This is a period of history that has always fascinated me ever since reading Miller’s The Crucible in school; I even went to Salem on my Honeymoon, so this will be one I’ll be paying close attention to.

[Ever] Carradine will play Ann Putnam Sr., Thomas’ (Izzard) wife, who is sickly but strong among her peers. [Damien] Molony is Robert Putnam, Thomas’ (Izzard) eldest son. [Julian Rhind] Tutt plays Minister Samuel Parris, a hard-line Puritan, who isn’t very popular, until the accusations start. [Matthew James] Thomas is Henry Paine, a newcomer from England. [Nigel] Lindsay plays Dr. Griggs, a man of science and reason. [Ewan] Bremner is Israel Porter, patriarch of the powerful Porter clan. Gillan plays Jane Porter, youngest daughter of Israel Porter. [Hannah] Nordberg, repped by Paradigm and manager Marnie Cooper, is Betty Parris, Samuel Parris’ daughter. [Naian Gonzalez] Norvind … is Samuel Parris’ niece. [Zawe] Ashton…is the Parris’ slave brought from Barbados. She truly loves Betty, whom she’s cared for since birth. [Will] Pullen recurs as Moses Cooper, [Kate] Nash as Bridget Bishop, [Mary] Mouser as Earth Fenn, [Beanie] Feldstein as Lydia Harris.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
