Yet more casting news has been released about season 6 of Game of Thrones and this time it comes with spoilers too. Oh goodie.

So, you know, SPOILERS

The latest addition to the Game of Thrones world is British comic actor Kevin Eldon. Eldon has appeared in many comic roles throughout his career, he played the absent minded cop Sergeant Tony Fisher ‘What he said’ in Hot Fuzz and the ‘dirty’ cleaner in Black Books. It’s almost certain that his casting in Game of Thrones is yet another comedic role.

There seems to be a large amount of comedy actors being cast into season 6 and Eldon is apparently set to play the ‘lead actor’ of the troupe.

The description of the character is as follows: “The leading actor in a theatrical company, around 50 years old. He participates in a play using a pronounced Northern accent, and we see him behind the scenes in seedy touring dressing rooms.  He’s a flamboyant caricaturist. He appears in three episodes and he also films this week in Spain and again around November 6th in N. Ireland.”

The locations are very strange for the travelling group. Spain is a strange filming location, previously only used for Dorne and the long bridge in Volantis. Northern Ireland is home to the North and the Stormlands. These locations are strange because Arya Stark is filming with Kevin Eldon and another female actor, Essie Davis who, is also part of the travelling theatre. Apparently she is set to join the travelling theatre group in the season. It is not known if this is an escape for her or a mission from the many-faced god. If this is true though it means that she could be set to return to Westeros and her home in the north too.

Essie Davis is to play a character based around Cercie Lannister with Eldon playing a Ned Stark-like character. It could be that Arya may befriend Eldon, but this is not yet known.

Another casting from a while ago seems to fit in with this storyline of a travelling theatre. Richard E Grant could play the theatre manager.

The description of the character is as follows; “(55 – 70) The larger-than-life leader of a troupe of actors. He specializes in portraying drunken aristocrats. He is a huge presence on stage and rather nasty to his company when off-stage. They’re searching for a character actor with great comedy skills. He appears in three episodes, and is shooting this week in Spain, and the week of November 6th in Northern Ireland.”

Grant certainly fits the description that’s for sure.

Game of Thrones will be released in April 2016
