Lionsgate developing American Psycho and Saw TV shows

April 24th, 2021 by Marc Comments

It looks like Patrick Bateman could be making a return along with, potentially, serial killer Jigsaw.

In a new interview, Lionsgate Television chairman Kevin Beggs has revealed that two of their biggest titles could be on the verge of getting a new life on the small screen. Like everything else.

Mary Harron’s iconic look at 1980s excesses, American Psycho was released in 2000 with a truly star-making turn from Christian Bale as Bateman and now it’s being looked at as a TV series.

As well as this, with a new chapter in the Saw universe coming next month with Spiral: From the Book of Saw – watch the trailer here – it seems that a ‘Book of Saw’ series could be in the works.

On the projects, Begg had this to say: “We’ve just wrapped up Dear White People, which was a really good experience. Blindspotting is coming up. American Psycho is in development. We’re always exploring what we can do in television with something like the Saw franchise, so that’s a conversation.”

And that’s all we have.

It’s unknown what an American Psycho series would be, but I’d imagine it would be a new take on the story rather than a sequel or – shudder – spin-off, so we could get a new Patrick Bateman with new, depraved antics on a weekly basis.

On top of this, the  Saw series might have a clearer story once we all see Spiral next month.

I’m always up for expanding characters and ideas as long as due respect is paid to the original and in a world where we have American Psycho 2, we should be safe enough. Right? Hello?

Anyway… thoughts?
