Yes! The new Doctor Who theme tune is here and returning composer Murray Gold has outdone himself this time!
Bringing in the big orchestral sounds that Gold brought to the series starting with Tennant’s era, this time there’s also a wonderfully barmy piano theme running throughout that shouldn’t work but does, perfectly underscoring the massive adventure that is Doctor Who but also the silliness that lives just beneath the surface and you can check it out below.
UPDATE: We also have the new Doctor’s Theme, listen at the bottom of the page!
The theme, presumably, will be used with Davin Tennant’s return three-part special next month and then will become new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa’s theme for the Christmas Special and then into his new series next year.
Speaking of which, showrunner Russell T Davies, in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, has said that, while it’s not the dates of Tennant’s return, November 17th and 24th are going to be big dates for Who fans… interestingly, November 17th is Children in Need and Doctor Who in recent years, has enjoyed special previews during that big night on the BBC, so we’d imagine we’ll get a new trailer or clip them; as for the 23rd? Well, that’s anyone’s guess at this stage.
UPDATE 2: At tonight’s Doctor Who 60th Concert, Davies was asked how long he was back for, his answer: “Let me think… okay, Series 4… I’m gonna write an episode that’s all music no dialogue. We plan ahead… There’s no room in Series 3.”
The same issue of Doctor Who Magazine also noted that Davies came up with another fun idea for the show’s 60th Anniversary and got three writers and a six-day studio shoot in September to make it happen… perhaps a fun short movie or movies to lead into the 60th Anniversary episodes as we got during the 50th Anniversary with Day of the Doctor almost ten years ago? Is that what we’ll see on November 23rd?
WATCH: Full trailer for the Doctor Who 60th Anniverary episodes arrives!
We’ve also learned that another spinoff-related thing has the initials TOTT… Tales of the TARDIS is a fan favourite right now. Perhaps Tales of the Time Lords? A Doctor Who anthology series, perhaps? Who knows… but isn’t not knowing a big part of the fun?
Oh, and here’s a sneaky look at the new TARDIS console
Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
