Looks like the DCU has cast its Hal Jordan/Green Lantern

Well, it looks like James Gunn and Peter Safran have cast their second Green Lantern for the DCU with Hal Jordan now joining Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner in the Green Lantern Corp.

Godzilla and Super 8 star Kyle Chandler has signed on to play the aging hero in the DCU’s Lanterns TV series on HBO Max; he nabbed the role which has had actors like Josh Brolin, Matthew McConaughey and Ewan McGregor attached but, and I won’t lie, I think he’s a perfect match. The series is still on the search to cast the third Green Lantern, John Stewart, to join the series.

Lanterns will be eight episodes and is being written by Ozark’s Chris Mundy, Lost’s Damon Lindelof and comic writer Tom King and is expected to film in January next year.

Word is the series has a ‘gritty, True Detective vibe as it focuses on Jordan reluctantly mentoring a younger Lantern, John Stewart. The story sees the two characters investigating an Earth-bound murder with larger implications. Sources say that DC and the producers are looking for a young, more fresh-faced actor for the role to play opposite an older and bigger name.’

It’s unlikely Fillion’s Guy Gardner will appear in Lanterns as he has already finished filming on Superman, the DCU’s first live-action movie.

Tidbit: Chandler has not signed on to a movie deal as the stars of the DCU all have so far (movies, animation, TV and games), make of that what you will though I can’t help feeling it has that ‘old cop’s last big case’ feel to it.

Thoughts on this? Let me know…
