Arrows executive producer Marc Guggenheim must be the most organised man ever. Not only is he the producer of Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, but he also has ties with The Flash and now his very own comic series.

This new comic The Infinite Adventures of Jonas Quantum, is a science fiction comic about a maverick hyper genius blessed with infinite intelligence: “I’ve actually been developing this idea for about 15 years… I wanted a heightened dialogue to go along with the heightened ideas and heightened visuals. The whole book is designed to be that really big, bombastic silver age/bronze age kind of comic book. So it just felt like going crazy with the dialogue, this general theme of going crazy with the ideas.”

The comic style is an alternate approach to the standard style; it gives the readers hints about the population’s opinions on Jonas without being too clear. Gugganheim also mentioned his use of heightened dialogue and an Aaron Sorkin style of writing liked with gigantic science fiction elements. Ideas he strived towards in the 2011 Green Lanturn.

“I think someone had thrown out the idea of Aaron Sorkin re-writing [The Green Lantern]. I had so much fun with that idea I actually took one of our scenes and rewrote it as if Aaron Sorkin was approaching it, and I really think that was where the seed got planted in my head.”

Now we all know how the Green Lantern film turned out, but imagine if Sorkin had written it. I remember seeing The West Wing and, more recently, The Newsroom and realising the genius of his writing. If Guggenheim is able to write in a similar style then it will be a very interesting comic to read. Sorkin’s style is more suited to drama and not sci-fi. Will it work? Well we will have to wait and see.

Guggenheim also spoke about the fourth season of Arrow and in particular about the appearance of Matt Ryan’s appearance as John Constantine in the show.

“When you see him in the show, honestly it feels like we’re doing a Constantine/Arrow crossover, and it’s so exciting… We’re just really glad we got the chance to extend Matt Ryan’s run as Constantine by at least one more hour of television. I think you’ll see he fits very neatly into our universe. It never feels forced, it feels right. Stephen’s on screen vibe with Matt is just very natural, it’s as if these guys had been working together forever… It all works and it works really effortlessly.”

It was a shame that the Constantine TV show ended because it had the potential to be something great. It would be good if with this new ‘cameo’ his fanbase is triggered once again. Whether he will get his own show or just piggy back off of Arrow is not known though.

The Infinite Adventures of Jonas Quantum #1 debut yesterday. Arrow Season 4 will debut on 7th October.
