It looks like after all this time, the Constantine fans may finally get what they want.
Oh, Constantine, what an eventful history you’ve had on the small screen.
Originally created in 2015 on NBC, the Constantine, starring Matt Ryan in the titular role, series started well but sadly was never renewed and ended on a rather big cliffhanger.
In stepped The CW, who were still building the Arrowverse into the behemoth it has since become and for a while it looked like they would pick up Constantine and make him at home with Arrow, Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.
Alas, despite a massive #SaveConstantine campaign by the fans – ourselves included – the character’s fate was not to be a new series… but he did make his way into a few episodes of Arrow and this only last year became a permanent part of the Legends of Tomorrow team. And he got his own spin-off animated web series come animated movie, City of Demons which started out as part of the Arrowverse but them became part of the DC Animated universe instead.
But now, it seems, he may have bigger things ahead of him.
As the devil himself knows, you just can’t keep John Constantine down.
But now word on the nerd vine is that Warners want a new Constantine series… and they want Ryan to stay on as the supernatural detective/anti-hero.
Now, as of yet, very little is known beyond what we just reported… but there is rumbling that Constantine may be moving out of The CW on over to DC Universe, the streaming service that has brought us the brilliant Titans and Doom Patrol, with Star Girl and Swamp Thing on the way.
Honestly, as much as we love seeing Ryan Back on our screens in Legends of Tomorrow, his character feels heavily diluted down compared to the world he started off in which on NBC was darker and more adult-oriented. Even Arrow felt like a more comfortable fit for him.
That said, with Batwoman heading to The Arrowverse and Black Lightning really coming into its own this season, perhaps The CW would be a comfortable home for Ryan as Contantine.
This is great news but please, whoever picks it up, can we get the cliffhanger from the original 2015 show tied up?
What say you all?
