When it was revealed that Wednesday was a very, very big hit for Netflix, trailing behind only Squid Game and Stranger Things, we all expected the season 2 announcement pretty quickly but sadly, it never came.
Then, after a bit of a kerfuffle over the rights to the character – it seems Amazon has bought the rights to The Addams Family – some thought that season two might not come or, if it did, it might find itself on Amazon.
However, the rights were sold after season one of the Jenna Ortega-starring show, so we all were pretty confident that that wasn’t going to happen.
And it seems we were all right as Netflix as announced Season 2 of Wednesday.
“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two,” said showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement.
“We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
At the minute it’s unclear if Tim Burton will still be involved, but with a spin-off apparently in the works too, it seems Wednesday’s future at Netflix is assured. For now.
Thanks to everyone who made this upcoming season possible. This has all been pretty surreal https://t.co/cIeJLr9qwh
